Quilts Of Valor

Quilts of Valor was founded in 2003. There are over 7,000 Quilters that have bought fabric and made a variety of designed Red, White and Blue America themed quilts. In excess of 180,000 quilts have been donated to our military men and women in uniform – current and veterans.

Locally, Virginia Carrera with the Sierra Mountain Quilters Association started making quilts for the Quilts of Valor national organization in 2006. She has since designed and pieced over 100+ quilts. herself and did the finishing touches on more than 150+ quilts made by local quilters.

Virginia has a long arm quilting machine and is able to complete the quilting of large quilts. A label is attached to the back of each quilt which tells the story of Quilts of Valor, quilters name and location of where quilt was made and the year.

In 2018, I was approached and asked to find local veterans to receive the Quilts of Valor as the quilters wanted to honor local veterans. Due to time restraints only two quilts were awarded, both to veterans of the Vietnam War, a Naval Parachute Rigger and a Navy Seabee.

In 2019, a total of 11 quilts were given to three women and eight men all from the Eastern Madera Mountain Area service ranging from World War 2; Korea; Vietnam; Iraq; Iran; Kuwait; Syria and Afghanistan. These 11 men and women represented every branch of the military services.
